With Chick-fil-A still in the spotlight over remarks made by its CEO, Dan Cathy last week regarding homosexual marriage; focus has shifted from a restaurant that has closed on Sunday’s to what naysayers – mostly homosexuals – are calling corporate ‘discrimination’, ‘intolerance’ and ‘anti-gay’.
Boston’s own native son, Mayor Thomas Menino told the Boston Herald last Thursday; “Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston,”. Menino is further quoted as saying; “You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against the population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion. That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started right here. And we’re not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail.” – who by the way shows his intolerance in a city ‘that’s at the forefront of inclusion’ (as long as you hold the same views as the Mayor I suppose).
Even the Fraggles are fraggled, as evidenced by the public split between The Jim Henson Company and Chick-fil-A.
“The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors,” the company said in a posting on its Facebook page. “Lisa Henson, our CEO, is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-fil-A to GLAAD (the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation),” the Henson Co.’s posting said.
To refresh your memories, Cathy told the Baptist Press when it comes to supporting traditional marriage, “Guilty as charged” and warned that gay marriage is “Inviting God’s judgment on our Nation.” Cathy went on to say: “I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, ‘We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage’, I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we would have the audacity to try to redefine what marriage is all about.”
“We don’t claim to be a Christian business”, Cathy went on to tell Baptist Press. “But as an organization we can operate on biblical principles, so that is what we claim to be. [Chick-fil-A] is based on biblical principle; asking God and pleading with God to give us wisdom on decisions we make about people and the programs and partnerships we have. And He has blessed us.”
Those that call comments made by Cathy ‘anti-gay’, ‘intolerant’ and the derogatory form of ‘discriminatory’, truly show their ignorance by using such terms. I’d personally place them in the same category as the government educated dumb-masses that use the term ‘racist’ to describe George Zimmerman or those that use the term ‘democracy’ to describe the US political system. Are Cathy’s words Discriminatory? Yes, the same way I discriminated against the pasta on the Olive Garden menu last night and opted for fish instead or the same way that the homosexual discriminates against the opposite sex.
Using these definitions ascribed by the naysayers to Chick-fil-A based on Cathy’s remarks; anyone capable of determinate thought is an intolerant, discriminatory anti-something. Necessarily there isn’t anything wrong with this when applied to discipleship in Christ and using Scripture as our guide, as Christ Himself said, ‘Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.’ (Matt 10:34)
The fact of the matter is that one position is false; as homosexuality is a sin and homosexuality is not a sin cannot both be true. You cannot argue moral, ethical or absolute truths without Scripture, as there is no basis for such things outside of the inspired text of the YHWH’s spoken Word. Scripture is the means by which God has revealed things to us that we may know them for certain. And for certain we know that homosexuality is an abomination, thusly, homosexual marriage is as equally an abomination.
As Christians tarry in arguments over non-essential doctrines, . 0128 percent of the US population is continuing to trample the Crown Rights of our King. Forcing the Church, in the name of tolerance to accept that which we know is not true and Holy. Let this be a wake up call. One that reminds us, the bride of Christ, that governments were instituted by God for the punishment of sin, not for social justice in the name of equality (Rom. 13:3).
Likewise, those in the Church that would ferry such heresies should be called into swift rebuke, publicly if not privately penitent. Vigilantly maintaining the bride of Christ in order that He may present her to Himself without spot or blemish, holy and blameless (Eph. 5:27). But, as Christ’s parable in Matthew 25:1-13 warns us, all face the danger of falling asleep on watch: ‘While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept’ (Matt. 25:5).
